Wieliczka Salt Mine Entrance Building

The Wieliczka Salt Mine opened in the 13th century and produced table salt until 2007! The mine’s depth reaches over 327 meters (we only went about 110 meters deep) and is over 287 kilometres long. Inside the mine are chapels, dining halls, shopping kiosks and even a cafeteria. We also saw numerous statues carved out of this black yet translucent salt and a few completely saturated pools. It was about a 3 hour tour that moved at a really good pace as apparently over 1 million people visit this UNESCO heritage site per year. We paid a fee to take pictures so enjoy the gallery!
