Having been to Italy before we knew that being a tourist on Sundays tends to be a little bit difficult. Many places are closed or have very limited hours so we planned our weekend carefully to avoid running out of food and/or activities.
With a quick internet search we discovered that the Archaeological Park was open on Sundays and this was our destination for the morning. After having a bigger and later breakfast (after all it was Sunday) we set out for the park. A staggering €20,00 later we were through the gates and off to see the Greek Theatre built in the 5th century BC.

It was an overcast day so there were not too many tourists, however, there was a rather large and very loud group of teenagers that made seeing the various sites a little difficult. In an attempt to work around them, we lingered in the orange and lemon grove until they had passed through the limestone cave called the Orecchio di Dionisio or Ear of Dionysius named so as it’s open was shaped like a human ear. Also the echo inside was earsplitting (especially when the teenagers started whistling and yelling)…oh oh, we are getting old. Inside the cave was silent once the youngsters left and we were able to enjoy the damp and eerie silence.
After the cave we went to the Amphitheatre and had a good look around. Unfortunately a good section of the walkway was roped off and we could not walk the whole way around. Oh well, I did meet a lovely little kitty that wanted to say hi. We left the park and went to seek out the Church of St Lucia. See Henrik’s post.
The rest of the day was like the ones we had before; we have started to develop a pattern. Home for some lunch, a nap and He gets some work done. We ended the day with a drink on the seaside promenade enjoying the Spring sunshine and people watching (see lower photo gallery).
