Enlightenment in Paris

For me, it is always good news when Paris is on the itinerary. Yes, it is a big city and yes it is full of noisy tourists… but who cares… it is Paris! We were able to finagle a 3 night stay in Paris on our way from Brussels to the Loire Valley and with a few trips on the reliable Metro, we were able to explore both old and new territory.

Paris is often referred to as the City of Light or Lights. The Eiffel Tower’s 20,000 light bulbs and the copious strings of lights that line the Champs-Elysées help with this moniker. Yes it is a very sparkly city, but, the light that I am referring to is enlightenment, as in the Age of Enlightenment. Paris was the centre of this movement back in the eighteenth century or thereabouts.

So now that I have cleared that up, I can now say that this particular visit was all about the other type of light. I had learned of an unique exhibition of Gustav Klimt at the L’Atelier des Lumières and thought it would be cool to check out. This recently opened art gallery used music and projected the images onto the walls and floors to make a truly immersive experience. It really blew us away.
