We were glad to have packed some warm clothes as our first day in Brindisi was a chilly one. The breeze that blows off the Adriatic Sea is brisk and we had to bundled before setting off to to explore our new home for the next few days. As per my previous post, our accommodations were not too fantastic, so we set out to make the best if it and go buy some wine and dinner fixings suitable for a Friday night.
Today (Saturday) dawned bright but still chilly; the plus was that our laundry dried in record time! In the morning we made our way to the market square. Unfortunately, there were only a few vendors on site. We were a little disappointed as the many of the photo I found online showed a much more lively environment. It was still April, so maybe things picked up a little later here. Missing the noise and prices of the markets we found in Sicily (go to Sicily), we got our shopping done and went in search of a usable coffee pot. The one that was provided by our host was woefully small and only made a mess of the stove.
Once we had caffeinated, we were able to better explore the city of Brindisi. Again as we were early to the party as the tourists had not yet descended upon this lovely seaside town. We could see signs that the locals were preparing, construction sites and clean-up crews were everywhere. The cobbled Corso Umberto I(the main drag) waited in anticipation for the hordes that were to come once the chill left the air.
