Berlin basics

Brandenburg Gate with Dad

My father is a bit of a history buff and walking through a city such as Berlin with him was a wonderful experience. We had wonderful weather for the entire time we were there and managed to visit most of the major sites. We all enjoyed a visit to the Brandenburg Gates where we saw a group of lederhosen-clad young men perform what looked like a traditional folk dance… however there was a lot of bum slapping going on so I am not so sure. Regardless of how “traditional” it was the music was lively and we all had a good laugh.

Checkpoint Charlie

We visited the more somber sites of Berlin and all of us took the time to read and reflect on what happened here in WW2. Again Henrik and I had been here before, so we were familiar with the public transportation options and keep the pace relaxed to make sure neither of my parents over did it.

Our apartment was spacious and was just outside the neighbourhood that we had stayed in a few years ago -Prenzlauer Berg. It was a nice tram or u-bahn ride into the action and close to a great grocery store called REWE that had all we needed to prepare many meals.
