I expected a lot from Bologna… The time spent researching the food scene here bordered on the obsessive. We are big fans of produce markets (see earlier posts: Catania, Syracusa, Cagliari), and with the nickname of “the fat one” I made the assumption that Bologna would be a city of foodies. I was right.

We arrived back on the mainland on Saturday morning, after a very early flight from Cagliari. We landed in Pisa and made our way to Bologna as soon as we could; the effort required to visit the Leaning Tower was just too much for our sleep deprived bodies to handle (we could always day trip back). After meeting our host at the AirBnB and doing a quick load of laundry (Henrik was out of clean underpants), we were off to explore the city of Bologna. Granted it was Saturday, so the crowd was probably a bit bigger than on a normal weekday, but wow, it was like everyone (and their dog) was out to enjoy the early evening. Streets were filled with people shopping/socializing and piazzas were crammed with tables of people enjoying pre-dinner drinks and snacks. We had a quick look around and dove right in; it is going to be a good week.
