Well after a few uncomfortable weeks, I am finally feeling like myself again. For those of you that have been sick while travelling you know what I have been through, those lucky few out there that have never experienced it… I have nothing to say to you… lucky bastards.
A big thank you goes out to the wonderful man I married. He handled more than his share while I was feeling poorly… I am not the best patient, and I must admit to a much shorter fuse when travelling while feeling like crap.
Anyhow, I am going to keep looking forward. He has posted about our travels and has summed things up perfectly, so I am going to pick up from here and not look back. I may post some photos…so check back.
Bratislava
What a wonderful city to explore. There are networks of trams and buses that make this city very easy to get around. The sidewalks are wide and for the most part in good condition. The old town has a few pedestrian-only streets that are filled with cafes and tourist shops aplenty. All in all a lovely spot to play tourist. We also happen to be here during Coronation Days. This year marks the 301st anniversary of the crowning of Maria Theresa, the only female ruler of the House of Habsburg. So there were activities and costumes and a nice party vibe to the city.
Farmers Market Farmers Market Radishes
Of course, we also found a small farmers market a few minutes from where we were staying, so all became right with the world again. It was advertised as a German Market but I was not too sure as to what made it German? There were some amazing produce sellers with fresh herbs and berries, a pickle vendor (He was so excited), a bunch of people selling local bottles of wine, and even a bar selling pints of craft beer – it was too early in the morning for us, but kudos to those enjoying their first pint at 10am. We had a good time looking at all of the homemade baked goods too. We bought some of the radishes pictured and boy where they snappy.
The Ladies of the Castle
On Sunday I was feeling so much better so we decided to make the trip up the hill to Bratislava Castle. It was bustling with activity and there were many costumed folks dashing around getting ready for the Coronation Celebration performance that would take place later that day. We looked around the courtyard and found our way to the very formal garden. After a lovely stroll it was time to have some lunch.
