Saturday’s adventure had us going up the mountain, so on Sunday, we decided on going down to the sea. So many stairs, but the effort was worth it.

Isola Bella is a small island (more of a rocky outcropping) here off the coast of Taormina that has an interesting past. King Ferdinand the I of Two Sicilies gifted the island to the town in 1806 and in 1890 it was bought by Florence Trevelyan, a wealth English aristocrat, who built a fantastic house that looks like it is melting into the landscape. She also planted an extensive garden and

imported many exotic species of plants from around the world. In the 1990s it was bought by the government and turned into a nature park. Now tourists (only 15 at a time) can go in and have a look around. He and I felt like we were in the den of some sort of Bond villain as the house had a 1960s kind of vibe and many hidden walkways with secret stone doors. After a good look around Isola Bella, we decided it was time for another Granite. There were a few little places along the beach so we decided to try out one of them… they were not as good as the ones at Bam Bar. However, they were refreshing and gave us the sugar boost we needed to climb back up to the apartment for some lunch.

The rain started shortly after lunch so we stayed inside until around 8pm. After a short stroll through town to work up an appetite we had dinner right on time.
