We have found a small slice of heaven here in Sicily. Yes, it is a wee bit touristy but we understand the appeal. The food, the wine, the atmosphere here in Taormina is fantastic. If it was not for the Wifi being a little on the slow side, I would say we have found paradise.

Today was a busy day for us. As it is the Easter long weekend, shops will be closed for the next few days so we needed to bring in some provisions. We started our morning with a temperamental espresso machine – will snap a photo for tomorrow’s post, but needless to say, we have a new appreciation for baristas. The set off for the market here in Taormina. This one was the first we found that was indoors. It was small, maybe only half a dozen vendors, but it was still bustling with activity. We made our purchases and then headed home for some lunch. While in the South we have  picked up the practice of taking an afternoon siesta. A long lunch followed by a short rest. During the heat of the day we really do not want to do anything anyways.

Once we were refreshed it was off the the ancient Greek Theatre build sometime in the third century BC. After a good wander around this impressive site we decide it was time to experience a local treat known as Granite. Thanks to TripAdvisor and our wonderful AirBnB host we knew that the best place to go for Granite in Taormina was Bam Bar. He had refreshing lemon and me, I stuck with good old Strawberry. Both were very tasty. After a quick pit stop at home we decided to climb up to one of the many peaks of Taormina for a birds-eye-view of the city. Unfortunately, we were not able to climb up to the very top due to road closures, but we made it most of the way. The view was amazing and made Me a little dizzy. We took our time heading back down the steep steps towards home and made a lovely dinner of shrimp scampi. It was quite a day.
