A big reason why we choose to come to Sicily was to discover the food. We have always appreciated the Mediterranean diet and enjoyed cooking with local ingredients on our last visit in 2013 so much that we wanted to do it again; this time  in the South. Of course the Sicilians know a fair bit about food. Their markets are overflowing with amazing produce, meats and cheeses. And nothing can compare to the call of the vendors boisterously advertising their wares. My favourite thus far has been the groveling man selling oranges at the Ortigia Market in Siracusa. We made market shopping a part of our daily life here in Sicily; although sadly not on Sundays. It became like a game, we would walk the length of the market a few times, scoping out the produce and prices, and then try to make all of our purchases from as few stalls as possible. Grinning like fools we would leave the market with full bags.

Of course we could not cook at home all of the time. So Wednesday we decided to go out for Pizza. I mean we were in Italy… we had to go out for Pizza. Based on a recommendation from our host, we set out for Pizzeria Frieda (yes named after the artist). Unfortunately we did not have a reservation and a table was not going to be ready until later that evening. However, across the piazza there was another place called Pizzeria Margò. After a quick consult on TripAdvisor we decide to give it a go. We had a great time and I finished the whole thing!!!

The gluttony of the night before had caught up with me, so my alarm was quickly silenced and thus we got a late start to the market on Thursday. We ate well again today and I even managed to pick up some cannoli for dessert.
