Simply put, I love Siracusa. The meandering streets (that had He’s natural sense of direction all akimbo) and the lively marketplace had me hooked on this lovely little town from the first day. The seaside promenade, with its laid-back ambiance, it made the perfect spot to people watch. I also lost track of the number of gelato places we saw, and each time we tried a new one, it became my favourite.

Me and He are also carry-on luggage only people, so every week or so we need to do laundry. He was able to figure out the washing machine and we were able to hang our clothes to dry in the spring breeze… we could get used to the smell of this.

Southern Italy has a particular vibe that I can not place yet; it is a good thing we have many more weeks for me to try and figure it out. I know that I do not fit in yet, not only is my Italian terrible, but my aura is too hurried and timid. I need to slow my pace and throw my shoulders back. A carless confidence that Italian women seem to have in spades.
