Thanks to careful planning, our AirBnB was in the heart of Warsaw, and this city was so easy to explore. With multiple transit options He and I could have gone by foot, bike, tram or bus. We were in the Mirów neighbourhood, where the sidewalks were wide and the bike lanes so clearly marked, that even I was contemplating a day rental (city bike rentals are everywhere and reasonably priced too – plus many of them equipped with air pumps for those occasional tire mishaps).
Market Shopping

Those of you that know us and are familiar with our travels, know that wherever we go we try and find a public market where we can buy fresh produce. Here in Warsaw we found Hala Mirowska a short walk away from our apartment. A wonderful maze of stalls selling produce, flowers, housewares, baked goods, eggs and so much more… He was delighted at the site of large vats of pickles for sale but did not want to buy such vast quantities right away. We visited the market twice in our five day stay in Warsaw (see photo gallery below) but most of our shopping we did at the grocery stores that were pretty much everywhere in downtown Warsaw.
Warsaw Uprising Museum
I love going to museums… that is who I am but not so much He. When we plan our trips there is always plenty of on our own time so that I can visit as many museums/galleries as I can. However, the Warsaw Uprising Museum caught his fancy so we decided to give it a go on a rather overcast day.

It was amazing and so full of information (90% of the materials had been translated into English). They had made special viewing platforms where videos of disturbing content could only be viewed if you choose to do so. There were interactive exhibitions and rooms with very low light to make you feel a we bit claustrophobic. But nothing could compare to the replica sewer tunnel that they constructed – it is hard to imagine people spent their days in such terror and darkness.
Wandering around Warsaw

Other highlights of our time in Warsaw include a stroll through the Saxon Gardens, a few trips to the Old Town (the first day we arrived during a peaceful protest – see He’s post for details) and a trip out to the large Łazienki Park to hear works of Chopin (Poland’s national treasure) played by a very accomplished young pianist.
Wonderful Warsaw
Warsaw has left a wonderful lasting impression on me. A wonderfully modern city with multiple transportation options and a charming Old Town – it is no wonder that it is called the “Paris of the East“.
