We left Straslund on Saturday, June 17th with blue skies and some decent wind. The sunset that evening was amazing and we were feeling good about our first overnight leg to the Kiel Canal. Henrik and Thomas took turns at the helm and very early Sunday morning I joined them to assist with entering the Eastern lock of the Kiel Canal. By some miracle we had made it just in time and without even having to tie up the boat we were through the lock and into the Canal in no time.

Thomas needed some rest, so Henrik and I motored our way through the canal and by about mid-afternoon we were ready to exit at the Western locks. Spilling out into the mouth of the Elbe River we called the marina in Cuxhaven and told them we are on our way. It took a little longer than expected to reach Cuxhaven, but we again were lucky and managed to make it to the dock and then to the grocery store before they closed at 6pm.

On Monday Henrik and I were on our own, as Thomas had to take his younger children to Amsterdam so they could catch a flight to visit their mother. He was also picking up two new crew members to help us sail the upcoming longer legs. Professional Sailor Bjarne Nielsen and his Dutch cousin Eric came aboard early Tuesday morning and we where happy to have the help.
