For those of you that do not know, I am very directionally challenged. We have lived in Vancouver, BC for well over 19 years and there are still times that I find myself a wee bit “turned around”. Thus, on past adventures, navigating through the winding streets of Europe has always been Henrik’s job. Until we got a data plan here in Italy and I could use Google Maps; it has really saved me (us). With a fairly hearty plan from Wind Mobile, I have been able to go off on my own and I feel confident that I can make it back to our apartment without Henrik having to send out a search party. However, I may have gotten a little too cocky this morning…
Our AirBnB host had recommended an early start for the Mercato di San Benedetto, so we left the apartment around 8:15am. Now unbeknownst to me, I had unfortunately put the wrong address into my trusty Google Maps app. When Henrik, who was also navigating via Google Maps, started going in the wrong direction (it has happened before) I told him that my route had a different way. He was adamant that his was correct and we shall see who got there first. I arrived first, at what I thought was our destination, and sent a triumphant text to Henrik that I was waiting for him. He sent back that we had agreed to go to a different market and that I was at the wrong place. Bummer. Setting in new coordinated in Google I was off again.
Once I got going in the right direction, I did manage to make it to the correct Market a few moments before Henrik (yeah). We were blown away by the size of the Mercato di San Benedetto here in Cagliari. The tribulations of the morning were forgotten and we went to explore this foodie paradise. The top floor was full of produce, butchers, cheese mongers and other food items, while the bottom floor was a fish market that has no compare. Fish, crustaceans and all sorts of ocean goodness was up for sale. The array of shellfish was impressive and everything looked really fresh and tasty. We spent well over an hour there; I was too busy looking to take a lot of photos. Perhaps I will make my way there again tomorrow.
